Wanderlust: Exploring Ethiopia’s Yirgacheffe Konga

Wanderlust — Yirgacheffe Konga, Ethiopia
Some coffees invite you to slow down. Others spark curiosity. Wanderlust does both.
Sourced from the high elevations of Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone in the Yirgacheffe region, this coffee celebrates place, people, and precision. Because farmers grow it between 2000–2300 metres, the cherries mature slowly. As a result, sugars develop fully and flavours intensify.
Yirgacheffe has earned its reputation as one of the world’s most renowned coffee-producing regions. Consequently, coffees from this origin often deliver layered, expressive, and unmistakably Ethiopian cups.
The Origin: Yirgacheffe Konga, Ethiopia
Yirgacheffe coffees are famous for clarity and complexity. In particular, the Konga area consistently produces exceptional lots. At these elevations, cooler temperatures slow cherry development. Therefore, the fruit builds concentrated sweetness and vibrant acidity.
This lot carries a Grade 2 Washed, Extra Sort classification and features Heirloom Yirgacheffe varietals. These indigenous plant varieties contribute depth, individuality, and nuance. Because Ethiopia preserves its genetic diversity, each cup reflects a wide spectrum of flavour potential.
Meticulous Processing, Start to Finish
Wanderlust undergoes a fully washed process, which highlights brightness and definition in the cup. After harvest, producers pulp the cherries, ferment them carefully, and wash them thoroughly. Then, they dry the beans on raised beds under the sun. Throughout this stage, workers turn and monitor the coffee consistently to ensure even drying.
Finally, teams hand-sort the beans. By removing defects manually, they protect cup quality and clarity.
The Konga Cooperative carries out this work with precision. As one of several cooperatives within the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU), Konga represents more than 2,400 smallholder farmers. Because the cooperative prioritizes quality, transparency, and consistency, its values closely align with how we approach coffee at Ottawa Valley Roast House.
The Cup: Elegant, Juicy, and Complex
Wanderlust feels refined yet vibrant. While it rewards attention, it remains approachable and balanced.
Cup Profile:
- Lively, structured acidity
- Pronounced natural sweetness
- Notes of honey, stone fruit, and black tea
- A full, juicy body
- Jasmine florals and lemon undertones on the finish
As the coffee cools, new layers emerge. Consequently, each sip reveals subtle shifts in aroma and flavour.
Why We Chose Wanderlust
At Ottawa Valley Roast House, we intentionally select coffees that tell a story. More importantly, we look for lots that connect the drinker to the landscape and the hands behind the harvest.
Wanderlust stood out immediately. Not only does it demonstrate technical excellence, but it also carries emotional character. Because of that balance, it feels equally at home in a slow morning ritual or a focused tasting session.
For micro-roasters, cafés, and serious home brewers, this lot offers something rare. It is limited, distinctive, and competition-ready. Therefore, once it sells through, it will not return in the same form.
Brew It Your Way
Wanderlust shines as a pour-over, Chemex, or batch brew. These methods allow its clarity and aromatics to take center stage. However, you can also experiment with immersion methods for a slightly fuller expression.
Ultimately, this coffee invites exploration — true to its name.
If you’re ready to experience one of Ethiopia’s most expressive origins, Wanderlust is waiting.
